Opening Sequence- 'Wallander'

Mise-en Scene
The costumes used in the opening sequence are very punk and gothic style clothing, this tells us more about the characters personality. The use of the knife is to show how mentally unstable the character is this also links in with the performance of the female characters as they are walking away as if nothing ever happened, like its completely normal to them. The low key lighting also shows the female characters to be evil and to be surrounded by darkness. The use of blood is to show how brutal the movie is going to be it also shows how troubled and rebellious the characters are. The razor blade necklace is to show how violence is natural to the characters.

Editing
Cross cutting is used from the girls to the murdered man this is significant because it shows that the murdered man is of importance and is the main event of the movie. An eyeline match is used when the police officer is looking at the girls this shows the officers thoughts on the girls as he is looking at them in disgust. The long takes used are to emphasis what has just happened and to draw the audience in by creating suspense. The use of slow motion is to show the audience how brutal the murder was and the show how cold blooded the characters are.

Camerwork
The long shot used is to show the location and to show how dull and quiet it is. The close up of the girls is used to show their facial expressions which show how they aren't bothered about what's just happened and that she has no regret for what she's jus done. The pan is used to show the man in the car looking at the girls this is to give the audience a view from his perspective. The close up of the dead man's key ring shows how he has a family and to show his innocence. Another close up shot is used to show the officers badge which symbolises his importance and authority.

Sound
When the credits appear on screen the music is slow and gentle this contradicts with the opening scene as you wouldn't normal associate gentleness with violence. Sound effects are used to put emphasis on the girls heavy breathing this is to create suspense and draw the audience in. When the girl drops the knife a sharp loud noise is used to create an uncomfortable atmosphere.
