An opening sequence is to introduce the setting of a film and the characters to the audience. Its also there to draw an audience in as it establishes the type of genre the movie is. Usually an opening sequence will consist of the title of the film and the actors, directors names. Continuity editing is usually used in an opening sequence to make if flow and to create unanswered questions. Clueless
From watching the opening sequence of Clueless we can tell that the genre may be a romcom as we see girly girls doing typical girly things which usually links in with the characters from a romcom. The characters in a romcom are usually a boy and a girl, the boy being very masculine and the girl being very girly, in the opening sequence of Cueless we can tell that the girl in it is a stereotypical girl within a romcom. The opening sequence also introduces us to the main character and the characters friends.
Se7en
From the opening sequence of Se7en we can see that the genre is a thriller because we are instantly drawn to the objects in the opening sequence which may suggest death or fear. The opening sequence for Se7en is dark in lighting and colours with a few bursts of light colours this also links in with the genre of thriller because they usually are films with low key lighting and colours. In this opening sequence we aren't introduced to any of the characters we can only see what the characters are doing which gives us an insight to what their personality may be like.
