Opening Sequences

What is an opening sequence?

An opening sequence is to introduce the setting of a film and the characters to the audience. Its also there to draw an audience in as it establishes the type of genre the movie is. Usually an opening sequence will consist of the title of the film and the actors, directors names. Continuity editing is usually used in an opening sequence to make if flow and to create unanswered questions.                                  Clueless

From watching the opening sequence of Clueless we can tell that the genre may be a romcom as we see girly girls doing typical girly things which usually links in with the characters from a romcom. The characters in a romcom are usually a boy and a girl, the boy being very masculine and the girl being very girly, in the opening sequence of Cueless we can tell that the girl in it is a stereotypical girl within a romcom. The opening sequence also introduces us to the main character and the characters friends.

Se7en

From the opening sequence of Se7en we can see that the genre is a thriller because we are instantly drawn to the objects in the opening sequence which may suggest death or fear. The opening sequence for  Se7en is dark in lighting and colours with a few bursts of light colours this also links in with the genre of thriller because they usually are films with low key lighting and colours. In this opening sequence we aren't introduced to any of the characters we can only see what the characters are doing which gives us an insight to what their personality may be like.

                                                                      Fast and Furious
The opening sequence for Fast and Furious 7 instantly tells us that the genre of the movie is action-adevnture as we right away see that the setting has been blown up and people have died.Action-adeventures usually have lots of fights, bombs, death in it and this opening sequence has all of that in it.  Normally in opening sequences we are introduced to the main protagonists however in this opening sequence we are introduced to the antagonist, this tells the audience how dangerous he is and how much fear he will create throughout the film.
